KONRAD HüNTELER, ARMIN THALHEIM, HäNDELFESTSPIELORCHESTER DES OPERNHAUSES HALLE, HOWARD ARMAN

Christoph Schaffrath war von 1734 bis 1744 Cembalist in der „Rheinsberger Hofkapelle“ des musisch versierten Preußenprinzen Friedrich II. Die Kompositionen auf dieser CD sind jedoch bislang unbekannt – sie wurden erst rund 250 Jahre nach ihrer Entstehung erstmalig von dem Rheinsberger Kantor Hartmut Grosch wiederentdeckt.
Die vorliegende Aufnahme wurde 1995 bei den Händelfestspielen in Halle aufgenommen. Es spielt das Festspielorchester des Opernhauses Halle unter dem Dirigat des Briten Howard Arman, der nur ein Jahr später für seine Neuformierung des Ensembles anlässlich seiner Produktion „Orlando“ den renommierten Händelpreis erhielt. Solisten sind Konrad Hünteler (Traversflöte) und Armin Thalheim (Cembalo).

Between 1734 and 1744 Christoph Schaffrath was harpsichordist in Prussian prince Friedrich II’s “Rheinsberger Hofkapelle”; the prince himself was an accomplished musician. The compositions on this CD remained unknown until they were rediscovered and published by the Rheinsberg Kantor Hartmut Grosch – some 250 years after they were written.
This recording was made in 1995 at the Handel Festival in Halle. The works are performed by the Halle Opera’s festival orchestra, conducted by British conductor Howard Arman – who was awarded the Handel Prize just one year later for his new formation of the ensemble for the production of Orlando. Soloists are Konrad Hünteler (transverse flute) and Armin Thalheim (harpsichord).
